Meet Edie
Edie King-Lawrence
Professionally…
Therapist, Educator, Author, Speaker
I have worked in the Human Service field for over a decade serving in a number of different treatment settings including: community mental health, substance abuse, non-profit, academia, and private practice. My varied experiences have equipped me with a well-rounded, trauma-informed, and multifaceted approach that enables me to effectively support individuals with diverse backgrounds, challenges, and needs.
In 2020, I founded King Counseling Services (KCS) and authored my first book, ‘My Peace is Most Important."‘ In addition to leading KCS, I also serve as an Adjunct Professor at my alma mater Eastern University, as well as a Provider & Program Developer for Black Men Heal. It’s in these roles that I get to take my gifts beyond the therapy room and actively help reduce mental health stigma in underserved populations and help nurture and guide the next generation of Helpers & Healers.
As a Speaker and Trainer, I pour my knowledge, wisdom, and life lessons into every engagement, creating an environment where people feel seen, enlighted, and empowered. I am passionate about the work I get to do and I see it as a privilege and incredible responsibility. My mission is to help, heal, & serve so that those connected to me may evolve into better versions of themselves.
Personally…
Wife, Daughter, Sister, Auntie, Godmom
Born and raised in Southwest Philadelphia, I come from a large family and am the sixth of eight children. My journey through economic, social, and environmental hurdles has given me the relatable and compassionate spirit that I carry into my work and every other area of my life.
I’m a woman of faith, an around the way girl, and a true-millennial at heart — often going down the rabbit hole of 90’s gospel & 2000’s R&B, and I never get tired of rewatching ‘Martin’ or ‘My Wife & Kids’ episodes.
Spending time with my husband Brian is my favorite thing to do, whether island hopping, getting lost in the MCU, or dying of laughter from an inside joke. From cookouts, to winning game nights, and showing out in karaoke — I love to host and gather with family and friends. In my downtime, you can catch me discovering a new restaurant or park, getting lost in a good book, and most recently learning and teaching line dance
As a Christ Follower, I understand that my life is a journey, and that it may come with different assignments along the way. I understand that the choices I make are tied to somebody else’s freedom, and therefore I try my best to walk out the calling that is on my life. Because at the end of it all, what will matter most is the difference we’ve made in the lives of others.
